I have really enjoyed the last few tech classes, but the one that really stood out to me was the lecture about AI in the classroom. I don’t think I have really grasped the whole idea of AI, and how much it has evolved over the short amount of time it has been around.
We got put into breakout groups to discuss the resource, “Digital literacy and the use of AI in education: supports for British Columbia schools.” The resource discusses how an ethical, responsible, and safe use of AI in education needs a human focused approach that focuses on meaningful learning experiences. It says that integrating AI into the classroom has the potential of enriching BC’s education system through a number of ways.
Both my group and I believe that AI should not be required to use in the classroom. We do not believe it is necessary, and classrooms have been functioning just fine without it. On the other hand, AI isn’t going away so if teachers use it, it hopefully will be in a safe and ethical way. The resource we reviewed had several materials for teachers, school staff, students, and parents to use to learn about AI and how to properly use it.
Overall, I felt it was a very important lesson!
